How You Can Move Quickly and Painlessly
Let’s go over some of the tips I give my sellers when we prepare their homes for the market.
We start with a room-by-room review. I recommend my sellers take a couple of post-it notes, go room by room, and sort each item. Decide whether you’re going to sell, donate, or throw away each item, and have those decisions color-coded to sticky notes. Maybe pink means sell, green might mean donate, and yellow means to throw it away.
This helps you move quickly. One person can go around sorting, and another can move them. This post-it note strategy can help you keep up the pace and plan for your home sale.
Another great tip is to pack and store as much as possible before your home goes on the market. Consider selling or donating anything you haven’t used in a year. Ask yourself if you will use it in your new home or not. If the answer is no, I recommend getting rid of the item; it will make your move so much easier.
"Following these tips will make your move thousands of times easier."
The goal is to go room by room and pack up everything you won’t need for a month. You would be surprised how much you don’t need daily. When you've boxed up that stuff and made the home ready for the stager, you will be surprised how easy it is to pack whatever is left.
The final tip is to make sure you don’t block anything the home inspector will need to look at when you’re storing your packed boxes. Many times people will put a bunch of boxes in the garage. If you have attic access in your garage, make sure you can get up there easily. The same goes for your hot water heater, electrical panel, and more. They won’t move any boxes when they do an inspection. Also, make sure to clear out the space under your sinks since inspectors need to check there.
Following these tips will make your move thousands of times easier. If you have any questions about the tips or real estate in general, call or email me. I would love to help.
